-=Kingpin Custom Sky Pack=- Full collection as of 04/21/2004 ---------------------------------------------- INTRODUCTION ---------------------------------------------- This is a collection of all custom skies ever used in any Kingpin custom DM or BM map to date. When joining a server that is running a custom map not in your system, the server will then download the map to you. The only problem with this is that servers can only download the actual map (the .bsp file) and whatever custom textures the map uses. If the author however used a custom sky or sound, you would not see/hear it because kingpin servers do NOT download sounds and skies (don't know why, it just doesn't) which is why sometimes when you're finished downloading the map the sky will have that annoying RED textureless appearance. Compiled here is the most current list of every custom sky ever used in any publicly released custom DM or BM map to date. There is a variety of different skies that range from user made to ripped from other games (such as sof, quake2, half-life, etc) ---------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION ---------------------------------------------- Real easy, just double click the skies_full.exe and enter your Kingpin directory (ie: C:/Program Files/Kingpin or D:/Kingpin or whatever the case may be on your system) then click "unzip" :) ---------------------------------------------- VIEWING ---------------------------------------------- If you're interested in seeing some of these skies without having to wait for a map that uses it, it is possible to view them from any map just by typing the correct command in your console while a game is running. Naturally you will have to know the name of the sky you would like to see. To know the name you will need a little bit of understanding about filenames for sky textures and how they work: A typical sky texture is in most cases actually made up of 6 textures. The top image (what you see when you look straight UP), the front image (straight ahead), the left image, the right image, the back image and finally the bottom image. For example, the sky texture lake_ is made up of the following files: lake_up.tga (up=top) lake_dn.tga (dn=bottom) lake_bk.tga (bk=back) lake_ft.tga (ft=front) lake_lf.tga (lf=left) lake_rt.tga (rt=right) With that said it should now be clear that the actual name of the sky is everything PRECEEDING any of the suffixes outlined above, in this particular case the actual sky name is lake_ Now to view it: Go to your Kingpin/main/env folder to find the names of all your newly installed skies. Next, create a text file and list all the skies you would like to see (list ONLY the actual sky name ie: fullmoon, lake_, etc.) then print it. Next, launch Kingpin and start a lan server through the gangbang option. Once the map is running pull down your console and type the following command: sky skyname (replace skyname with one of the skies in your list) and then press enter. Close your console and have a look up, your sky should be in place :) Any questions just give a shout DirtyDog dirtydog.admin@kingpinforever.com ICQ 76953303
